GM recalls trucks due to engine block heater cord fires

General Motors is recalling after 19 reports of fires caused by engine block heater wires globally over 368,000 pickups and trucks.

The recall covers the 2017, as well as 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 6500 and 4500, 5500 trucks via GMC Sierra 2500 and 3500 and 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 and 3500. All have GM’s 6.6-Liter diesel motors and an optional motor block heater employed in temperate climates.

The business said the electric heater cable or the springs connecting the cord could short-circuit and neglect. That could cause fires. No injuries have been reported.

GM is looking for the reason for the problem and produce a cure. It is asking customers not to utilize engine block heaters.
